Delta Product Platform

Coping System's Delta Product Platform medical informatics software is designed to provide health-care providers solutions for reducing operating costs while continously improving quality of care, patient safety, and treatment outcomes.

The Delta Platform is developed using a Microsoft-based technology foundation. Delta is a distributed multi-tiered client server application with Microsoft SQL server at the core. It is designed to integrate with existing hospital systems, consolidate data, automate workflow, and track key performance indicators.

The Delta architecture uses both Web 2.0 and rich desktop user interfaces which support automated workflows, electronic medical charts, administrative forms and data views designed to deliver a highly functional user experience. Coping Systems has deployed hundreds of users based on this technology. It is field proven, secure, IT and user-friendly and can be economically applied.

Delta is extremely modular; using one click deployment, the software can be installed as either a comprehensive EMR solution, or ala-carte to facilitate cost-effective function-by-function deployment of specific applications. Clinics often purchase and deploy one module at a time, gradually adding capabilities and users to meet their needs and budget. Delta can be deployed in a number of standard architectural configurations including locally within a single small department, or across a large multi-hospital enterprise using secure access solutions such as Citrix or web-based VPN connectivity.

Delta Core Server

The purpose of the Delta Core Server is to provide users comprehensive visibility into all critical patient care data, regardless of where it is generated or stored.

The Delta Core Server and database unify data from multiple sources including Delta EMR charts and forms as well as external hospital systems. The Delta Core Server interfaces with all of the other Delta architectural components to consolidate data and to maintain links to external data that cannot or should not be duplicated.

Built on Microsoft SQL Server, the Delta Core Server is architected using a flexible data driven schema, enabling high performance and easy expansion, including the ability to add custom fields and functions.

Delta EMR

Delta EMR delivers user-friendly electronic workflows, charts, and forms tailored to meet specific clinical and administrative requirements.

Because Delta EMR charts are presented to the user through a Microsoft Office enabled user interface, they are easy to learn and highly functional. Clinicians like this approach because it provides them with a familiar and rich display of patient care information that can be interpreted at a glance to help guide clinical decision making.

Color coded alerts, graphs, reminders, notes and calculations use many of the standard features provided by Office. Charts are locked down and secured so that users can only access the data and fields that they are allowed to see and edit. Highly secure, reliable and HIPAA-compliant, the Delta EMR solution is flexible, powerful and cost effective.

Delta Analytical Server

The Delta Analytical Server is designed to improve patient safety by trapping and annunciating adverse events and negative trends before they become critical.

Using advanced statistical analysis techniques, the Delta Analytical server monitors detailed key performance indicators associated with all aspects of the clinical treatment process. Measuring outcomes and alerting clinical leaders to adverse events is vital to achieving continuous process performance and ultimately delivering the best care possible. The Delta Analytical Server was designed to measure both prospective and retrospective results.

The Delta Analytical server uses the Delta Core Server as the core data repository. While patients are being treated, point of care information is gathered, validated and loaded into the database.  Clinicians and researchers use a Microsoft.NET enabled web interface to configure a study analysis. (A typical study might investigate the rate of complications following surgery). Studies can be configured to run for a period of time – typically weeks or months in length or until a certain number of statistically valid samples are captured.

The system allows the user to specify risk adjustment models from a library or to enter their own customized models. Data can include previous cases, future cases or a combination of previous and future. While it is typical to capture 200 or more variables per case, normally only ten to twelve key performance indicators are needed to conduct a study.

Each time new patient records are entered into the database, the statistical engine recalculates the active studies. If a statistically significant trend or event emerges, the Delta Analytical Server will trigger an alert notifying the study designer and others interested in the results. Users can then peruse the analysis reports and graphs to explore the results in detail. Resulting data can also be exported to third party tools such as Excel and SAS.

Delta ETL Engine

The Delta ETL Engine, capable of supporting batch and real-time transaction processing, is designed to automate and simplify hospital system integration by extracting, transforming, and loading data from multiple sources into the Delta Core Server.

A key feature of the Delta ETL Engine is the ability to support practice-specific data integrity rules. These rules are designed to ensure that an entire healthcare record is complete, accurate, and makes sense in the context of all variables recorded for the patient and the treatment they receive. This is more powerful than the field-level data integrity checks performed on most systems. Coping Systems works with clinicians to help them express their rules via a table-driven fill-in-the-blanks data editor.

The Delta ETL Engine maintains process integrity logs and can alert users and hospital IT staff in the event of an integration failure. The Delta ETL Engine interfaces with the Delta Scheduler to gather data on a prescribed time basis. The Delta ETL Engine may also be configured to update the Delta Core Server in real-time as external systems log their transactions.

Delta Viewer

The Delta Viewer, a fast and flexible window into the Delta Core Server database, provides a comprehensive view into patients' key treatment information, profiles, schedules, reports, trends and alerts. With this tool, clinicians can easily manage their case loads effectively and efficiently.

Delta Scheduler

Automated workflow management is a key component to lowering cost and improving quality of care. The Delta Scheduler triggers all types of time-based events and actions within the system such as scheduling nightly data imports, scheduling patients for surveys in follow-up studies, and scheduling clinicians to attend to critical workflow actions.

Delta Alerts

Delta Alerts are used to ensure that important events are brought to the attention of pertinent users. By carefully designing alerts into Delta applications, users become more effective in responding to workflow events.

It is important not to overuse the concept of alerts, as users can become immune to their urgency and will tend to ignore them. Coping Systems understands this and will recommend the appropriate and sparing application of alerts to their clients during the system design process.

In all cases, the Delta Alerts module logs the alerts into the Delta Core Server. Alerts can be displayed in a number of ways depending on their purpose and importance. Delivery of alerts can be through email, pop-up messages, color-coded web sites and via status messages at user log in.

Delta Accounting

Delta Accounting is a software module used by clinics to manage the flow of patients as they progress through clinical trials. As patients are enrolled and complete milestones, Delta Accounting tracks their progress and allows study managers to generate reports and billing invoices to the trial sponsors.

Delta Accounting makes it easy for research-oriented clinics to set up procedural billing in a flexible way because it enables the creation of an unlimited number of milestones per treatment protocol. Delta Accounting is typically installed as a shared application between the clinic conducting the study and the hospital billing department.
